Sunday Morning Thoughts

It was a sunny Sunday morning in the outside of Indonesia when the sky was very clear and the sun shone. I woke up and took a bath in my hotel room. It was not a very good hotel I think, as the shower was not working very well that I could not set up the temperature of the water. Then I went out to a food corner next to the hotel to eat some breakfast. Smokes were flying around my face as five person of my family smoked around me while I was eating.

The wind was quite calm and the sun was getting higher. It was the time for us to travel by car. I spent my time looking on the window. The road is very clean as we could hardly find rubbish in this city. Then as we were on the highway, I talked a lot with other 8 person in the car. It was a good conversation although I did not understand when my uncle talked about car especially about Jeep cars.

Well, I thought different things. I saw that the situation was not too different than Indonesia. But why we still left behind? The Government must be very responsible on this. We could not manage our city and we could not manage our bad habit. As we see everyday there are lots of rubbish we can found on the side of the roads, traffic jams, and many other problems. We complain too much but we do not try to make it better.

Well, going abroad is not just about having fun. Therefore you can compare your country to the other and then you will realize that our country is not as good as you think. However, the time past and we arrived in our destination. Time for us to enjoy the excitement and forget anything else related to my country. It will be better someday I think, so off we go.

The Worst Problem In Indonesia

This is report on a carried out among the students in my class. We pick Indonesian problem as the main theme. As we know, Indonesia has a lot of problem. Starting from economic problem, environment pollution, and traffic problems. This survey is aimed to find out which is the problem that Indonesian people feel the most disturbing one. With this survey, we hope we can solve these problems together and make Indonesia a good nation.

We asked to 20 students about the problems and they answered with many answers. 5 students feel that traffic jam is the most disturbing problem in Indonesia especially in the capital city of Indonesia. However, six students think differently. They said Indonesia has a terrible environment as there are too many buildings and a lack of green areas. But nearly half of the students in my class think that corruption is the worst problem in Indonesia.

So, the conclusion is Corruption is the most terrible problem we have in Indonesia. It was a big problem though, because when someone corrupts it means they stole the nation's money that should be spend on building the nation itself. We have to stop corruption because it could be very dangerous for out country.

Technology in Angklung

Angklung is a musical instrument made out of two bamboo tubes attached to a bamboo frame. Angklung is popular throughout Southeast Asia, but originated from Indonesia and it has been used and played by the Sundanese since the ancient times. Angklung is played by a number of people. Three or more angklung performers will play one note and together producing complete melodies. It will be great if someone can play Angklung alone, but how?

Thankfully, our friends from Bandung have created a robot that can play Angklung by itself. They are Karismanto Rahmandika, student of 14 Junior High School Bandung and Krisna Diastama who studies in Ibnu Sina Islamic Elementary School. The robot is named Klungbot. Using Lego Mindstorm robot and LeJOS operating system, they translate musical tone into program language. This language then received by language translator which is connected through bluetooth and go to the motor.

The ideas come when Krisna saw angklung performance and feel that playing angklung is very hard. Angklung needs a lot of people and a good coordination to produce a perfect melody. With Klungbot, angklung can be played easier.

Apart of creating Klungbot which is competed in National Young Inventor by Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia (LIPI), Krisna have also created a music instrument player robot which is created from water filled bottle and a drum player robot. Both can play together so they can create sounds like a music symphony. What an intelligent boy!

Who said that LPG Cylinders is only for cooking?

Liquefied petroleum gas (also called LPG, GPL, LP Gas, or autogas) is a flammable mixture of hydrocarbon gases. LPG or usually called as Elpiji by Indonesian people is usually used for cooking. The gas from LPG can power the stove so it can light up the fire. Now, most of the Indonesian people use it for their daily cooking. Beside of used as cooking fuel, the propane gas contained in LPG can be used as vehicles fuel.

But there is something different in Indonesia, a teacher from Temanggung named Sri Suryana Dwi Atmaja has founded a new concept of vehicle fuel that use Elpiji cylinder as the main fuel. He claims that his gas motorcycle is environmentally friendly and more economical than petrol based motorcycle.

Sri's creation is different from other gas-based vehicles. When other vehicles change the carburettor for supplying gas, he didn't change it. So it is easier if we want to use petrol again. The main equipment of Sri's motorcycle is a converter. The converter itself serves as a counterweight wind.

Sri admit that he needs almost two years to modificate his motorcycle until it is perfect. An amount of 1 million rupiah is spent by Sri to complete his project. He did this because he is concerned about the scarcity of premium and the rise of the premium price which occur everywhere in Indonesia

Based on what Sri said, a 100cc motorcycle with a three-kilograms LPG can goes as far as 200 kilometres until 250 kilometres. Whereas premium-based motorcycle can only travel a distance of 150 kilometres.

For awhile, Sri only set his creation in a 4-stroke vehicles. Hopefully this thing makes people don't depend on premium gas which is getting rare and more expensive.
